The Division of Labor
and Industry encompasses the following units to help protect and promote the
health, safety and employee rights of Maryland employees:
Maryland Occupational Safety and Health
(MOSH)
MOSH works to ensure that every working man and woman in the
State of Maryland has safe and healthful working conditions. MOSH consist of
traditional enforcement,
outreach and education, and
free consultation services.

Amusement Ride Safety
All amusement rides or attractions in the State of Maryland
must have a certificate of inspection before being allowed to operate.
Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Safety This unit inspects boilers and pressure vessels used in
commercial establishments, places of public gathering, and apartment buildings
with six or more units.
Elevator Safety
This unit is responsible for the inspection and certification of elevators,
dumbwaiters, escalators, and moving walks throughout Maryland.
Railroad Safety
This unit conducts inspections to ensure enforcement of State and federal
railroad safety requirements. |
Prevailing Wage
The Prevailing Wage Law regulates the hours of labor,
rates of pay, conditions of employment, obligations of employers, and
the powers and duties of certain public officials under contracts and
subcontracts for public works in Maryland. Search Prevailing
Wage Determinations in all 23 Counties and Baltimore City. This unit also enforces the Living
Wage law.
Employment Standards
This unit administers and enforces 24 laws concerning employment
issues, including: Wage and Hour, Work Permit for
Minors, Employment Agencies, and
Farm Labor Contractor Licensing
Apprenticeship and Training
Apprenticeship is a voluntary, industry-driven program which is
sponsored by employers, employer associations, and jointly by management and labor.
Apprenticeship is open to anyone age 16 or older, and 18 for apprentice in specified
hazardous occupations.
Protege
