October 2017 Thoroughbred Rulings - Maryland Racing Commission

October 1, 2017- Laurel Park
#17-162 In the second race at Laurel Park on September 29, 2017, horse #2 “Humbolt Street”, ridden by apprentice jockey, Luis J. Rodriguez was disqualified
from third position and placed fifth, behind horse #1 “Aim Straight”, ridden by jockey Sheldon Russell. About the 3/8 pole, # 2 “Humbolt Street” is angled in towards the rail by his rider without sufficient clearance and caused the #1 "Aim Straight” to be taken up sharply by his rider to avoid hitting the rail or clipping heels.
[Violation under COMAR 09.10.01.50, A (1)b, d & e, which states in pertinent parts: “A horse may not: (b) Cross or weave in front of another horse without sufficient clearance (d) Intimidate another horse, or (e) Impede another horse.]

#17-163 Apprentice jockey, Luis J. Rodriguez, is suspended three (3) Maryland racing days,
October 6, 7 & 8, 2017, for riding the horse “Humbolt Street” in a careless manner in the second race at Laurel Park on September 29, 2017.

About the 3/8 pole, # 2 “Humbolt Street” was angled in towards the rail by his rider without sufficient clearance and caused the #1 Aim Straight” to be taken up sharply by his rider to avoid hitting the rail or clipping heels.
[Violation under COMAR 09.10.01.50, A(1) ,b,d & e, which states, in pertinent parts: "A horse may not: (b) Cross or weave in front of another horse without sufficient clearance, (d) Intimidate another horse, or (e) Impede another horse.]

October 5, 2017 - Laurel Park
#17-164 Trainer Jesus Cruz is fined twenty-five dollars ($25.00)
for not having the colors for “Reward the Gypsy”, entered to run in the twelfth race at Laurel Park on September 30, 2017, after receiving a warning on (09/10/2017 ) for the same offense.

October 7, 2017 - Laurel Park
#17-165 Veterinarian, John Sivick, is hereby fined Five Hundred dollars ($500.)
, for treating a horse, in error, that was scheduled to run that day, thereby causing a late scratch.

#17-171 In the matter of Trainer Lacey Gaudet, regarding the Stewards Rulings #17-114 and #17-121

On September 28, 2017, the appeal of trainer Lacey Gaudet was heard before the Maryland Racing Commission. The findings of the case are as follows;

  1. The horse “All Blinged Out”, be disqualified from the second race on May 25, 2017 at Pimlico
    Race Course.
  2. The Horsemen’s Bookkeeper redistributes all purse monies for that race in accordance
    with the following order:

October 20, 2015 - Laurel Park
#17-172 Trainer, Edward Maher, is fined Two Hundred dollars ($200.00)
for being the aggressor in a physical altercation on the grounds of Laurel Park, which is under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Racing Commission. Mr. Maher is also suspended for a period of thirty (30) days. This suspension however, is stayed under the provision, he not be involved in another altercation for a period of 365 days from the date of this ruling.

having been duly notified to appear before the Stewards concerning financial responsibility and, having failed to appear, is hereby suspended pending his appearance.

#17-174 Owner/Trainer, Michael Jones, Jr. having appeared before the Stewards is restored to good standing.

#17-175 In the second race at Laurel Park on October 22, 2017, horse #4 “Fifties Music”, ridden by apprentice jockey, Luis Rodriguez was disqualified from second position and placed fourth
, behind horse #5 “Lights On”, ridden by jockey Sheldon Russell. Inside the 1/16th marker, #4”Fifties Music” drifts out into the path of #5 “Lights Out” causing the rider to take up to avoid clipping heels.
