You should be aware of a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement that
will impact renovation contractors throughout the State of Maryland. Effective April 22, 2010, under EPA's
Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule, professionals and firms involved in renovation, repair, painting
or remodeling work that will disturb six square feet or more of interior painted surface or 20 square feet of
exterior painted surface at residential dwellings (including multi-unit and public housing) or child-occupied
facilities built before 1978 need to receive training, obtain certification, provide the required EPA
Pamphlet "Renovate Right," prior to the start of any project, maintain compliance records and adhere to
lead-safe work practices.
